Liverpool are understood to have submitted a bid worth up to £62million for Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The Reds have been linked with the Brazil No.1 for most of last season, with the goalkeeping position remaining a headache for Jurgen Klopp.
Simon Mignolet was ousted by Loris Karius but the German keeper rarely offered an assured pair of hands, with his two mistakes in the Champions League final costing Liverpool in a 3-1 defeat.
Karius has had a shaky start to pre-season and, according to widespread reports, Klopp has acted by submitting an offer worth £53million up front with another £9million possibly to follow in add-ons.
Roma have yet to respond to Liverpool’s proposal, and though it is thought the Serie A club are looking for a fee in excess of £65million, the Reds are confident a deal can be secured.
Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in Alisson as doubts persist over the future of Thibaut Courtois, who has been linked with Real Madrid.
But Liverpool are looking to act decisively and get a deal done before they are dragged into a bidding war.
Roma have indicated a willingness to sell at the right price, with the Italian giants having considered replacements for Alisson, with PSG’s Alphonse Areola and AC Milan’s teenager Gianluigi Donnarumma among the names under consideration.
8 – Alisson conceded 28 league goals last season (excl. OGs), but based on Opta xG data for the shots on target he's faced, the average goalkeeper would've been expected to concede 36 goals.
