Jose Mourinho has told Zlatan Ibrahimovic that while he is looking forward to having the player back and fully fit for United, there is no need for him to worry and rush back.
Mourinho also hinted at the fact Zlatan is trying to hurry back – and wanted to be back even quicker than his already insane timescale hinted at – but that patience was needed.
Mourinho said: “I think we need him. We wait for him, but with patience.
“He has to be patient.
“He doesn’t have to be emotional and he doesn’t have to try to make crazy things to improve [recover] quicker in his mind.
“Because I know that his desire is to improve quicker. So, calm – [take things] step by step.
“We want him, but we want him in his best condition.”
Zlatan of course stayed with Manchester United and penned a new deal with the club, and will be key to them once he is back fit, with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku currently on fire for the club – but once the games start coming thick and fast and injuries and fatigue start piling up, another world class player is never something to turn down.
Mourinho was well aware of that, and given the club did not sign another forward once they landed Lukaku this summer, it seems there was always the plan to keep Zlatan and offer him a new deal once he was ready to come back.
Another player who has been vital to United is Paul Pogba – and the club could well have to do without him for some time, after the player pulled up with injury against Basel.
Mourinho claimed after the game he had not spoken to the player or the medical stuff and did not know how bad the injury would be – but that he thought it may be some time before Pogba could play again – and would call on his squad to help get through said games.
